how does an adjustment work?

A chiropractic adjustment is a controlled, precise movement applied to a joint.

Your spine is made up of vertebrae, which protect the spinal cord and nerves. Between those bones are joints, discs, muscles, and ligaments that allow movement.

When there is a joint dysfunction, it can:

  • Irritate nearby nerves
  • Cause muscle tightness
  • Reduce range of motion (lack of joint movement)

A chiropractic adjustment applies a quick, low-force impulse to the joint to improve the communication between the nervous system and your body. This helps:

  • Restore normal joint motion
  • Reduce nerve irritation
  • Relax overactive muscles
  • Improve proprioception (your body’s awareness of position and movement)
